Milfoil, Algae, Seaweed |
For
boaters these names conjure up a variety of
emotions. This is Steve at Steve's Marine Service
and today on the Marine Mintue we'll talk about
measures you can take to avoid problems. |
First
and formost, when entering bays or other bodies
of water you are not familiar with, |
GO
SLOW |
Keep
an eye on your depth finder |
Look
for telltale foliage and blooms which YOU SHOULD
AVOID COMPLETELY. |
If
you find yourself in seaweed, check your gauges
IMMEDIATELY. |
If
your engine is heating up |
STOP
YOUR ENGINE |
CLEAR
THE INTAKE WATER VENTS AND PROP OF ANY OBSTRUCTION |
If
your engine is not heating up |
Leave
the area in question and when clear |
STOP
YOUR ENGINE |
CHECK FOR WEEDS ENTANGLED AROUND THE PROP,
SHAFT and/or WATER INTAKE VENTS |
By taking these measures, you can avoid problems
that could lead to expensive repair bills not
to mention putting a damper on your boating . |
